5 Truths You Learn About Life Only After Moving Away From Home

Regular communication with loved ones is one of the best ways to cope with separation. If possible, try talking to your family and friends in person at least once each month by scheduling a visit or inviting them over for a weekend stay. I left my 3 daughters and my wife to take up a job in the East of Nigeria. It was an exciting feeling initially but since I arrived a week ago, I have cried like a baby every morning because I feel terribly lonely without my girls.

In 2014, I embarked on a journey to Phoenix, Arizona from Maryland/DC! But, the State’s Beauty spoke to my soul. The Sunshine, Palm Trees, Mountain View’s, Blue Sky and kind people! Arizona welcomed my 2 kids who were 3 and 11 at the time. Though, I have 3 siblings and lots of cousins, aunts, etc.

You Meet Different People Living Away

I moved from GA to Alaska with my bf. I went a year without seeing my mom and sisters who I’m so so close to. And Alaska is SOOO different from Ga. with that being said, I have a job I love now, and am going to school in Alaska too! I’ve managed to save enough to visit my family and today is my last day with them. Even though I went a year without seeing them, I don’t want to go another one. And it’s not forever you never know what life will do.

As you can imagine, I was extremely torn. Should I stop the move and stay in Chicago for my mom? I felt guilty about moving away from mom even before we left America. We were happy in Chicago and very engrained.

Insights learned from moving away from our hometown.

After planning for 2 years we finally made the move. Sixteen months ago we left my hometown in Pennsylvania of 46 years. I lived there my whole life and raised 3 children. The oldest, my daughter Ashley, 25 now, moved to Florida 3 years ago to embark on her dream.

Your relocation is guaranteed to be a success. Feelings of isolation will only exacerbate homesickness. While your new home may feel like a safe haven in a sea of unfamiliarity, it can just as easily become a trap that keeps you from fully experiencing what’s around you.

#9 You’ll Have More Than One Place to Call Home

Thankfully, my mom moved within a few blocks of my gramma and brother, so I felt some solace knowing they had each other. So there we were, in the throes of planning, and she was suddenly all alone. She was going through a significant life change and had to move into a new place, all by herself. And it was time to stop thinking about it and start doing it. We were both ready, and I felt like it was now or never.

Her dreams are her dreams, not yours. It may be selfish to you, but she needs to follow her path, not the one you deem is the right path. I am currently thinking to move back to the US, but the thought of leaving my mom raising my little brother on her own in the UK haunts me. I haven’t seen my little brother in over 2 years as he’s just coming to the UK, and leaving him months after his arrival would make him very sad too.

We differ in our reaction to COVID and do not see eye to eye politically. We’re freedom seekers and our children are fearful. Needless to say, we do not spend quality time with them or the grandkids because they feel we are not safe. We were going to retire nearby but found we can not afford the area and want to be somewhere warmer. We never thought we’d live in Florida but we checked out the northern part of the state and found a great piece of land where we will build. Two of our 5 boys are laying on the guilt trip.

My heart ached for the Woman I was in Arizona. My expectations led to massive disappointment. I gathered the pieces and found Joy within.

And then I moved to college in another state. Being so far away from home—not just the physical structure of my house but the family, friends, and familiar sites that defined my comfort zone—was an overwhelming undertaking. And if you’ve ever moved away from home, chances are you’ve had similar feelings. I appreciate these articles so much.

Mark felt ready to move a few years before me but waited patiently until it felt right for me. But after returning from Cape Town, I settled back into Chicago. I did the things I wassupposedto do in my mid-late twenties. I found a good job and started a career path. Life was comfortable and meeting Mark just solidified that for me.
